The strategy and design company Futurebrand challenged us to reintroduce cassette tapes to the market in a way that intrigues younger audiences. We also needed to create a memorable unboxing experience for our audience while considering our theme.

Our Solution
Cassonic is our company that is bringing back cassette tapes to a new, younger audience. They sell themed box sets of cassettes and cassette players. We designed one of their box sets, the “Loop of Love Cassette Mix,” for teenage girls. There are three cassettes featured: one for the crushing stage, one for the love stage, and one for the break-up stage. Each cassette has one hour of popular romance songs featuring teens’ favorite artists.
Behind the Design
To appeal to our teenage girl audience, we decided on a fun, punk theme that feels both relatable and cool. We directed our own photoshoot to capture the feelings of a relationship seen on the front cover. Each emotion includes one image as well as its own color code.
The package is a heart-shaped box that resembles classic chocolate boxes seen around valentines day, which fits with our love theme. Inside the lid is the complete song list on each cassette, with songs embodying the chosen emotions. Each cassette is supported in the insert that includes a thumb hole, allowing easy removal.
